Scoot! Scoot!

October 21, 2008

Check out this dude. I was intrigued by the eccentricity of this young-at-heart during the same hol with beautiful people. I say… Man, you have character! Long ears and all!

My sketch of a Kelabit. To know more of their tribes, log on to www.kelabit.net I have only good things to say of its people, place and culture. You’ll love the weather too.

Finally… a chance to rest

To sleep standing is really a skill…

The season is here

October 13, 2008

From September to March here in Singapore wetlands, migratory waders arrive in graceful fashion from the northernmost end which stretches from Russia to Alaska, travelling along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway to escape cold wintry conditions, finding comfort in the warmer climates of SEA. This is their non-breeding season. In total, the flyway passes through 22 countries with approximately 55 migratory species travelling along it, equating to about 5 million birds. They carry no passports no baggage. Free to do as they please – feeding, fattening themselves for another long journey when season ends. Here, a whimbrel above - one of my favourite waders and another, a plover.

Painted faces

October 12, 2008

Been starting to do lots more face- & body-painting this year coz I think my cutie lil’ niece is at a nice age to start introducing her to art and colours. To think of it, she is my free canvas!

There are loads of benefits to let kids experience face-painting i must say:

1. It teaches them to be still and allow something to take place

2. It allows them build trust to let a stranger paint on them (if the artist they do not know)

3. It lets them see the artist at work first-hand – the mixing of colours, brush strokes, etc, etc.

4. If they can choose a picture they want at that point, it teaches them to make a decision.

5. Most of all, it makes them SMILE.

This boy smiled after the photo. Yes, he was a happy customer. Boy, if you happen to see you here in my blog, just want to thank you for letting me use this photo. (Painting done in 2006)

Time and place

October 11, 2008

Guess I need to go find inspiration in another place. To have a holiday that is. This pretty smile is one edged in the back of my mind – the face’s origin is from the high altitudes of Sarawak and yes, this place I miss and think of fondly. The good-lookers, young and old and most of all the vast land of greens and browns.

Check out the beauty of this place. The air – Amazing.

Have a whale of time

October 9, 2008

Time really seems to wait for no man… and woman too - yes for me, it hasn’t stop since I got busy with work in my current role in services. I miss times where I can wander off thinking about what to draw… especially things really kiddy. I like kiddy. Animals are my fav subject, but somehow I’ve grown to enjoy trees and flowers… and even plain old grass cows chew on. Grasses have very pretty flowers I must say. If I had a whale of time, I’ll be sitting out on a big field drawing them.

A blog this day

October 7, 2008

It was out of pure simple persuasion, genuine excitement and encouragement from someone living with me under this roof on an October night (to be specific 7th October 2008) that I manage to start my very first blog. I felt like “I should do it” out of the blue. I’m rash maybe. Wow… my very first blog, how in the world did I even get started with it? Told myself blogging, no. It’s going to hurt my eyes – my windows to the world! I’m getting blind from my full-time job already – staring at the puter day after day. Sighz.

Now since my blog is borne, someone must take the responsibility to keep it alive. I think I’ll take the job. Gosh why oh why did I even get started… But hey, it’s suppose to be about Pygmies and Giants… yeap my pet project and I’m going to baby it on this blog. Will try my bestest to add stuff here. Stay tuned!
